Sexually transmitted disesases represent today a group of infectious diseases characterized by high morbidity and high welfare costs. OMS assessments point out that in 1995 more then 330 millions of new STDs cases have occurred (etiologic agent C. Trachomatis, T. Vaginalis, Gonhorrea, Sifilis). The data that describe Italian situation are provided by the “Istituto Superiore della Sanità” through an organised collection from national STDs Centres. However STDs Centres in Italy are not homogeneously distributed, the data are collected by selected population and most pregnant women turn to territorial reference centres instead. Moreover, often, these infectious diseases are not notified.
