Today the traditional laboratory reques(order)-report cycle is broken by several factors. The flow of the diagnostic activities of the laboratory changes to compensate the discontinuities of the health system. The good professional practice requests both the verification and the validation of test results, based on various examples exposed in the Checklists of the College of American Pathologists. The supervision can be asynchronous in respect of the flow of results. The detection and the correction of errors can use computer science automation (autoverification), as indicated by the guideline CLSI Auto10-p. The realization of an autoverification mechanism is laborious, complex, but it gives remarkable advantages. Expert systems and other middleware products are commercially available, that really help the autoverification. The document of the laboratory report can contain references to the verification and the validation, for example the names of all the supervisors.
