Key recommendations for the immunological diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis were developed, based on evidence in the literature and expert consensus, by a panel of rheumatologists, immunologists and clinical pathologists of the Italian FIRMA group. Recommendations were made to adopt a diagnostic strategy that is consistent with current evidence and facilitate appropriate laboratory test use and interpretation. These recommendations are directed to rheumatologists, general practitioners and laboratory physicians and scientists who are involved in the diagnosis and care of patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
